Risk controls: what we refuse to do
Short answer: EnjoyPDF is only for files you have the right to change. The software assesses risk levels on your computer: signed or issued documents require confirmation and get an EDITED COPY stamp, and official or certified documents are not edited in place. These rules cannot be turned off in any edition.
Our position
The technique of changing text in place on scans can be used to correct typos, put translations back into documents and remove personal information. It can also be misused to forge or tamper with certificates and other proof documents. We restrict that second use at three levels: the product, the website and the license terms.
In the product
- Risk levels: After “Find”, the software assesses the file’s risk level (L0–L3) on your computer. The assessment considers wording such as “Certified True Copy” (and its Chinese equivalent), names of issuing authorities, ID document types, verification QR codes, the machine-readable zone (MRZ) of ID documents, red seals, and signature and contract wording.
- L2 signed or issued: Requires confirmation; output pages get an “EDITED COPY” stamp (bilingual in Chinese and English).
- L3 official or certified documents: Not edited in place.
- Batch and command line: L3 files are skipped; L2 files are processed only when explicitly enabled.
- Cannot be turned off: These rules are not configurable, including in the Enterprise edition.
- Redaction is not restricted: Redaction only removes information and can be used at any level.
The exact thresholds and rule combinations are not published, so they cannot be used to get around the rules.
On the website and in marketing
- This site shows no examples of editing ID documents, official documents, invoices or bank documents;
- All demonstrations use synthetic files from fictional companies, marked SAMPLE;
- We do not buy or use advertising keywords related to altering certificates or other proof documents.
In the license terms
The Acceptable Use Policy prohibits using this software to forge, alter or tamper with any certificate or proof document, official document, or financial or academic record, or to deceive others in any way. Users who violate it will have their license terminated.
Reporting
If you find someone using this software to commit fraud, tell us through Report abuse. We reply within 5 business days and cooperate with lawful assistance requests from law enforcement.
