Read-back verification and operation record

Why read back

Recognition can misread characters, and replacements can be affected by fonts missing characters or crowded layouts. Looking only at the preview can miss one or two places. Read-back turns “what I changed” into “what the new file actually says”, and gives a result for each place.

How it checks

• Scanned images: each replaced area is recognized again and compared with the expected new text.
• Text layer: the text at that position is extracted and compared.
• Key fields: amounts, dates and reference numbers are compared strictly, and a second recognition model must agree.
• Result: the results list gets a “Read-back” column showing ”✓ Pass / Review / ✕ Fail”. The save banner offers “Show failures only”.

For Devanagari and Kannada you can install an extra read-back pack that acts as a second recognizer. It reduces “Review” results caused by misread vowel signs. (An Arabic read-back pack also exists, but the current version does not yet support searching or replacing Arabic text, so it is not used for now.)

Operation record manifest.json

Each save writes a “filename.manifest.json” next to the output file. It contains:

• the file names and SHA-256 of the original and output files;
• the number of rules and statistics;
• read-back results (number checked, passed, to review, failed), or residue check results for redaction;
• the risk rating;
• versions of the app, the engine and the recognition models.

With it, the recipient can confirm that the delivered file is the same file that was output at the time. You can check it in your browser with the operation record verifier.

Projects and crash recovery

Each open file is saved automatically as a project, including keywords, settings and selections. If the app did not close normally, the next launch offers “Resume where you left off” and restores your selections.

FAQ

Why are amounts, dates and reference numbers checked more strictly?

One wrong digit makes them a different value. On read-back they must match exactly, and a second recognition model must agree. Thai digits count as equal to their Western forms, and thousands separators are optional.

Does the operation record contain the original text?

For replacements, the operation record (manifest.json) contains the number of rules and statistics, not the keyword text. For redaction, it contains only categories and positions, not the deleted text.

How does command-line mode report a failed check?

Exit code 3 means the file was written, but read-back or the residue check found a problem.
